Düsseldorf Garath, ein Stadtteil am südlichen Stadtrand, wurde in den 1960er Jahren aufgrund der Wohnungsknappheit vom Stadtplaner Friedrich Tamm entwickelt. Es ist mit 8000 Wohnungen das bis heute größte zusammenhängende Bauprojekt Düsseldorfs.

Das Stadterneuerungsprojekt Garath 2.0 nahmen die beiden Fotografinnen Eva-Maria Burchard und Merle Forchmann zum Anlass, sich in einem fotografischen Langzeitprojekt damit auseinander zu setzen.

Architektur und Orte voller Gegensätze. Bewohner*innen aus unterschiedlichen sozialen und kulturellen Milieus. Eine Welt in einem Stadtteil. Aus den Fotoserien entstanden zwei Fotokunst-Magazine sowie eine Ausstellung mit Großplakaten.

Düsseldorf Garath, a district on the southern outskirts
of the city, was developed by urban planner Friedrich Tamm in the 1960s due to the housing shortage.
With 8,000 flats, it is still Düsseldorf's largest contiguous building project.

The two photographers Eva-Maria Burchard and Merle Forchmann took the urban regeneration project Garath 2.0 as an opportunity to explore it in a long-term photographic project.

Architecture and places full of contrasts. Residents from different social and cultural backgrounds. A world in a neighbourhood. The photo series resulted in two photo art magazines and an exhibition with large posters.
